Simon Metcalf is from a small agricultural town on New Zealand's South Island called Geraldine. It is here that he grew up and gained a respect and love of the mountains while working on the sheep and cattle stations. Through many years of working as a shepherd he learned how to hunt and coexist with all of the wild game and people that live in and roam the Southern Alps, his back doorstep. He has a unique perspective and contacts with all of the people of this area 2nd to none.
It was this enjoyment of living in the mountains; working and hunting; that led him to travel the world and eventually to become a guide in the wilds of Alaska. In hindsight Simon states it was one of the best decisions he has made. In his seasons of working there he has learned a great deal about hunting many of the different species of animals he never would have hunted otherwise and refreshed his experience and enthusiam of the mountains.
"It is this experience in Alaska that has driven me to continue my guiding here at home in the hopes of showing the people of the world what a great place we have right on our doorstep here in New Zealand."
